Mathematics

Our Mathematics programme prepares students for the Cambridge International AS and A Level Mathematics. The Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics helps students develop transferable skills. These skills include working with mathematical information, thinking logically and independently, considering accuracy, modelling situations mathematically, analysing results, and reflecting on findings. Students can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects, and the skills equip them well for university studies in Mathematics.

About The Program Design

The IGSH mathematics programme adopts a blended learning Smart school model. In this education model, we use technologies to deliver a significant part of the education for both self-directed learning (SDL) and tutor-facilitated tutorials (TFL) online. We also deliver a smaller part of the education onsite. The onsite courses relate to mathematics enrichment courses that involves solving real world problem through data collection that require acquiring skills and hands-on experience for effective learning. The onsite courses may also include learning support programme for learners who are need more guidance in grasping the content presented.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics (9709)

The Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics helps students develop a set of transferable skills. These include the skill of working with mathematical information, as well as the ability to think logically and independently, consider accuracy, model situations mathematically, analyse results and reflect on findings. Students can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and the skills equip them well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.

Key concepts are essential ideas that help students develop a deep understanding of their subject and make links between different aspects. The key concepts for Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics are:

● Problem solving
● Communication
● Mathematical Modelling

There are six Mathematics components available:

  • Pure Mathematics 1 (Paper 1)
  • Pure Mathematics 2 (Paper 2)
  • Pure Mathematics 3 (Paper 3)
  • Mechanics (Paper 4)
  • Probability & Statistics 1 (Paper 5)
  • Probability & Statistics 2   (Paper 6)
Students take two components for AS Level Mathematics.
Students take four components for A Level Mathematics.

Cambridge International AS & A Level Further Mathematics (9231)

The Cambridge International AS & A Level Further Mathematics helps students develop a set of transferable skills. These include the skill of working with mathematical information, as well as the ability to think logically and independently, consider accuracy, model situations mathematically, analyse results and reflect on findings. Students can apply these skills across a wide range of subjects and the skills equip them well for progression to higher education or directly into employment.  Students will find that the additional time spent studying Further Mathematics will support their understanding of A Level Mathematics.
Key concepts are essential ideas that help students develop a deep understanding of their subject and make links between different aspects. The key concepts for Cambridge International AS & A Level Further Mathematics are:

● Problem solving
● Communication
● Mathematical Modelling

There are four Further Mathematics components that can be combined in specific ways:

● Further Pure Mathematics 1 (Paper 1)
● Further Pure Mathematics 2 (Paper 2)
● Further Mechanics (Paper 3)
● Further Probability & Statistics (Paper 4)

Students take two components for AS Level Further Mathematics.
Students take all four components for A Level Further Mathematics.

STEM Education

IGS believes that in a world fuelled by advancements in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), immersion in these subjects will allow students to learn in the context of real-world application. STEM education provides a wider array of opportunities for further studies at universities.

Beyond the applicability of a solid STEM-Focused education, what IGS offers is a university preparatory programme where students will read primarily Cambridge A-Level Mathematics and Science subjects as these are the key subjects for entrance to many universities. As such, the Invictus Global School STEM-Focused curriculum is planned and implemented with strong intention to promote higher levels of success for our students.
